Hotel del Coronado Recognized in TIME’s 2026 World’s Greatest Places

SAN DIEGO (March 12, 2026) – Today, Hotel del Coronado is pleased to announce its inclusion in TIME’s annual list of the World’s Greatest Places. This prestigious recognition highlights 100 extraordinary destinations worldwide that are redefining the travel experience through innovation, authenticity, and excellence.

The accolade comes on the heels of The Del’s monumental $550+ million property-wide restoration, a seven-year journey that meticulously preserved the hotel’s 138-year legacy while introducing a new era of contemporary luxury. Originally built in 1888, the Hotel del Coronado, an iconic landmark in both California and the U.S., stands today as a testament to time. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1977, The Del shares this title with icons such as The White House and the Statue of Liberty, and is one of only 23 historic hotels to receive such an honor. This recent reimagination marked the first time in the hotel’s history that it’s been renovated on such a grand scale, focusing not just on restoration, but on preservation, ensuring this National Historic Landmark endures for another century.

To compile this list, TIME solicited nominations of places—including hotels, cruises, restaurants, attractions, museums, parks, and more—from its international network of correspondents and contributors, as well as via an application process, with an eye toward those offering new and exciting experiences. Hotel del Coronado was recognized as one of the exciting new “Places to Stay”.
