My Husband’s Wives; directed by Maurice Elvey; starred Shirley Mason and Bryant Washburn.

The Coast of Folly; directed by Allan Dwan for Famous Players; starred Gloria Swanson and Anthony Jowitt. Plot: The adventures of a young heiress. Swanson’s three Del films, The Coast of Folly (1925), Beyond the Rocks (1922) and The Married Virgin (1918) helped establish the Hotel del Coronado as a popular destination for Hollywood filmmakers.
1926
Good and Naughty; directed by Malcolm St. Clair; starred Pola Negri and Tom Moore.
1929
The Flying Fleet; directed by George W. Hill; starred Ramon Navarro and Anita Page. Plot: Two navy aviators compete for a young woman’s affection. Hollywood/Del Trivia: During the making of the movie, Anita Page (at that time, only Greta Garbo garnered more fan mail) fell in love and married a real naval officer, settling permanently in Coronado.

Coronado (musical); directed by Norman McLeod; starred Jack Haley and Andy Devine. Plot: A rich hotel guest falls in love with a Tent City singer. This film further established the hotel’s image as a playground for the rich; featured songs: “Doing the Coronado” and “Coronado by the Sea.” Hollywood/Del Trivia: Actor Johnny Downs, who grew up in Coronado, tap danced atop The Del’s mahogany bar.
1936
Yours for the Asking; Directed by Alexander Hall; starred Ida Lupino, Dolores Costello and George Raft (who also starred in Some Like It Hot).
1959
Some Like It Hot; directed by Billy Wilder; starred Marilyn Monroe, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis. Plot: Romantic high jinks throughout the resort. Dollars [$]; directed by Richard Brooks; starred Warren Beatty and Goldie Hawn. Plot: A slick crime caper with a climatic rendezvous at The Del.

Wicked, Wicked. Plot: A psychopath killer terrorizes a resort hotel.
1980
Loving Couples; starred Susan Sarandon, Shirley MacLaine, James Coburn and Stephen Collins. Plot: Two married couples exchange partners for extra-marital flings. At The Del: Cast as the “Delmonico Lodge” (and seemingly at the foot of a mountain range), the film includes wonderful shots of the lobby (including the old-fashioned wooden key cases); elevator; driveway/porte cochere; tennis courts; the Garden Patio (as a restaurant); the pool; Sun Deck; and The Del from the beach.

The Stunt Man; directed by Richard Rush; starred Peter O’Toole and Barbara Hershey. Plot: A maniacal movie director allows a fugitive to work as a stunt man, almost killing him in the process. About The Del: As a movie-within-a-movie, there are fabulous shots of the hotel from unusual angles, including a vintage sword fight atop The Del’s turreted roof.

At The Del: Rick Moranis and Joan Cusack merengue on the Sun Deck; there’s also a great scene with a private dining table right on the beach.

Mr. Wrong; starred Ellen DeGeneres, Bill Pullman, Joan Cusack, Dean Stockwell and Joan Plowright. Plot: A young woman’s life spirals comically out of control after she becomes the object of an admirer’s twisted affection.
