CHEF ROBERT HOHMANN TAKES 1500 OCEAN TO NEW HEIGHTS
Coronado, CA — Celebrated Chef Robert Hohmann heads 1500 OCEAN’s culinary team, bringing his impressive 15 year career to Hotel del Coronado’s signature restaurant. Hohmann comes from New York, and has worked under the tutelage of a veritable who’s who of the culinary industry’s greatest chefs including Jonathan Benno, Mario Batali, Jacques Pepin and Thomas Keller.
Chef de Cuisine Hohmann grew up in New York with Sicilian and German parents and discovered his passion for cooking at nine when he started working at a local pizzeria. His vision is to take California Coastal ingredients and infuse the contemporary Mediterranean flavors of Italy, France and Morocco to create a variety of bold and complex flavors.
Committed to the support of local artisan farmers and utilizing The Del’s vast herb garden daily, Hohmann’s seasonal menu features fresh from the sea selections such as Pacific Oysters, Black Mussels, Wild Sea Bass, and Seared Diver Scallops. Mediterranean influences include Burrata Bruschetta, Fig & Fennel, Piquillo Soup, Veal “Tonnato”, Moulard Duck Breast, Grilled Lamb Loin, and Beet Risotto. Desserts include Ricotta Fritters with honey and saffron, Meyer Lemon Cheesecake and a Chocolate Polenta Cake.
1500 OCEAN’s unparalleled oceanfront setting offers a sophisticated yet unpretentious venue with both indoor and outdoor settings to accommodate small and large parties. Ben Kephart, General Manager and Wine Director, presents an extensive wine list along with sommelier suggested bottles nightly.
