SUMMER FUN AT THE HOTEL DEL CORONADO

CORONADO, CA — There’s an ocean of fun waiting for you at Hotel del Coronado! With the completion of an $8 million Victorian room renovation, new Blue Octopus Family Suites, special programs for children and teens, it’s easy to see why Travel + Leisure Family magazine named The Del one of the top 20 family resorts in the U.S.

The V.I.K. (Very Important Kid) program is designed to make younger guests (ages 4 to 12) feel extra special starting at check-in, where they will receive their V.I.K. pass. The lanyard pass can be worn around the neck and entitles kids to great offers at their favorite spots including MooTime Creamery, Spreckels Sweets & Treats, Blue Octopus and Kidtopia. After they visit these locations and get a sticker from each one (no purchase required), they will receive a special toy prize at Kidtopia.

Kids will enjoy taking their V.I.K. pass to Blue Octopus, a new toy store where kids are inspired to learn about the planet through creative, imaginative playthings. MooTime Creamery offers ice cream and yogurt that is smooshed and smashed into their favorite flavor combinations. And Spreckels Sweets & Treats, an old-fashioned candy store, is the perfect way to indulge those sweet tooth cravings.

Then there’s Kidtopia, an exciting facility for children ages 4 to 12, featuring bright colors, underwater murals and separate beach-themed rooms for crafts and playtime. There’s also a crazy funhouse mirror and high-tech entertainment stations with computers, movie-time media and a Dance Dance Revolution game. Kidtopia offers three-hour camps and shorter programs with entertaining and educational crafts and activities. Camps, which include lunch or dinner, feature scavenger hunts, sandcastle contests, beach Olympics, luaus, bonfires and much more.

The Del doesn’t leave out the teenagers! For teens ages 13 to 17, there a Teen Access Pass which entitles them to special offers at the Sun Deck Grill, Spreckels Sweets & Treats, the Spa at The Del and beach rental outlets. Teens can take a break from the family and hang out at The Del’s year-round lounge just for them. Vibz offers a variety of fun games and activities including billiards, foosball, darts, computers, Dance Dance Revolution and more.

The oceanfront resort also offers biking and kayaking tours, surfing lessons, volleyball and boogie board rentals and much more. And for those who want to relax and unwind, the Spa at The Del offers spa treatments designed specifically for those ages 13 to 17.

During the summer months, the resort offers extended programs for children including Bingo tournaments on the pool deck, fitness classes just for kids and teens, and Flick N’ Float movie night, where kids can watch a film from an inner tube.

Families will enjoy sitting around a crackling fire pit under the stars, toes in the sand, and snack on the classic combination of marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate. All equipment is provided. S'mores for larger groups and birthday parties are also available.

Named the Best Family Beach in America by The Travel Channel, Coronado beach has something for everyone. Start the morning with a walk, jog or swim along the Pacific. Coronado’s generally small waves are perfect for learning to surf or boogie board. Board rentals and lessons are available. Bikes for all ages, surreys and deuce coupes are available for rent. The Coronado bike trail, which runs along Glorietta Bay and the beachfront walk, is safe, easy to navigate and beautiful year-round.

And parents, if you’re more interested in unwinding, the expansive sandy beach is perfect for sun bathing. The Del offers an award-winning spa and rejuvenating yoga classes on the sand. Or just, sip a margarita at one of The Del’s many oceanfront restaurants. There truly is something for kids of all ages.

With all this plus easy-access to SeaWorld, the World-Famous San Diego Zoo and Legoland, it’s easy to see why Travel + Leisure Family magazine named The Del one of the top 20 family resorts in the United States. For reservations, call 800.HOTEL.DEL or visit www.hoteldel.com.
